More information coming soon
I am delighted to serve the members of the Midwest Lipid Association as president of our organization for the 2010 to 2011 term. The regional and local nature of the MWLA provides for us the opportunity to become involved, to get to know our friends and colleagues who share common interests, and to promote the growth of clinical lipidology.
As you know, clinical lipidology is a relatively lonely specialty in most areas and there are relatively few people in any given location with whom you can discuss the clinical or administrative aspects of daily lipidology practice. You will find that our organization offers a welcoming venue whereby you can connect with others who actually understand the importance of prevention and have made a commitment to participate in a community of health professionals whose purpose is to reduce the burden of suffering from cardiovascular disease.
I encourage you to take advantage of the diversity of the MWLA. Whether your focus is more practical or academic, patient care or research, you can thrive in this organization. The Midwest culture is well known for our great work ethic, lack of "hidden agendas," and welcoming attitudes toward those who choose to settle in our part of the country. I will make every effort to take advantage of those characteristics in our membership as the year moves forward. Active participation in the committees of our organization will provide opportunities for new and established members to contribute to our mission and to become future leaders in our field. Become familiar with the use of the National Lipid Association website, www.lipid.org, and actively network with your colleagues, both regionally and nationally. Take advantage of the tremendous educational aspects of your organization by participating in our web seminars and attending our regional and national meetings. Take the next step and move down the rewarding pathway to become board certified in clinical lipidology. Actively seek out colleagues who express interest in our field and encourage them to attend our local and regional meetings.
Finally, I want to express my personal hope to hear from you. Feel free to e mail me through lipid.org. Only with your active input can we make the MWLA the vibrant and energetic organization that we all want it to be.
